Scarlett Johansson (born November 22, 1984) is an American actress, model and singer. She made her film debut in North (1994) and was later nominated for the Independent Spirit Award for Best Female Lead for her performance in Manny & Lo (1996), garnering further acclaim and prominence with roles in The Horse Whisperer (1998) and Ghost World (2001). She shifted to adult roles with her performances in Girl with a Pearl Earring (2003) and Sofia Coppola's Lost in Translation (2003), for which she won a BAFTA award for Best Actress in a Leading Role; both films earned her Golden Globe Award nominations as well.
A role in A Love Song for Bobby Long (2004) earned Scarlett Johansson her third Golden Globe for Best Actress nomination. Johansson garnered another Golden Globe nomination for Best Supporting Actress with her role in Woody Allen's Match Point (2005). She went on to star in two further Allen movies: Scoop (2006) and Vicky Cristina Barcelona (2008). Johansson has appeared in other successful films, such as Christopher Nolan's The Prestige (2006), the historical drama The Other Boleyn Girl (2008) and the ensemble romantic comedy He's Just Not That into You (2009). She has played the Marvel comic book character Black Widow/Natalia Romanova/Natasha Romanoff in Iron Man 2 (2010) and The Avengers (2012), and is set to reprise the role in Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014).
The 2010 Broadway revival of Arthur Miller's A View From the Bridge won Scarlett Johansson the Tony Award for Best Performance by a Featured Actress in a Play. As a singer, Johansson has released two albums, Anywhere I Lay My Head and Break Up. On May 2, 2012, she was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, which was placed in front of Madame Tussauds Hollywood, on Hollywood Boulevard.
Scarlett Johansson is also considered one of Hollywood's modern female sex symbols, and has frequently appeared in published lists of the sexiest women in the world, most notably when she was named the "Sexiest Woman Alive" by Esquire magazine in both 2006 and 2013, and the "Sexiest Celebrity", by Playboy Magazine in 2007.
A role in A Love Song for Bobby Long earned her a third Golden Globe for Best Actress nomination. Following an appearance in The Island, Johansson garnered a fourth Golden Globe nomination, for Best Supporting Actress, for her role in Woody Allen's Match Point.
She followed that with another Allen film, Scoop, with Hugh Jackman. A role in Brian de Palma's film noir The Black Dahlia was followed by a second role opposite Hugh Jackman in The Prestige, also starring Christian Bale.
Following a 2007 appearance in The Nanny Diaries, Scarlett Johansson starred in the 2008 films The Other Boleyn Girl, opposite Natalie Portman and Eric Bana, and the Woody Allen-directed film, Vicky Cristina Barcelona, with Javier Bardem and Penélope Cruz. She appeared in He's Just Not That into You (2009) and as the anti-heroine Black Widow in Iron Man 2 (2010), with Robert Downey, Jr. and Samuel L. Jackson.
On May 20, 2008, Scarlett Johansson debuted as a vocalist on her first album, Anywhere I Lay My Head, which included cover versions of Tom Waits songs. Her second album, Break Up, with Pete Yorn was released in September 2009.
